29th June - Aberdyfi

After spending an hour at the graveyard big Al Jones and myself continued on to spend a couple of hours at Aberdyfi itself. The weather was good with some nice blue skies and white cloud. I took several shots with my Nikon F100 but the majority of the photo's with my Nikon D90. Here are a few from the our morning trip out at Aberdyfi :)

29th June - Graveyard to Aberdyfi

Myself along with Al Jones decided to spend a couple of hours out and started off at the Graveyard on the way to Aberdyfi, opposite the golf course. The weather was sunny but as always with graveyard stonework, I usually find they work better in black and white.  I took several photo's using my Nikon F100 but the majority with my Nikon D90 and Nikon 50mm 1.8.

I've also had a roll of Elite Chrome E6 slide film sitting in my Nikon F90 for around 2-3 years so decided to go do some random 'snap shots' around Tywyn. As expected they were just pretty much 'snap shots'. Still, after being in my camera for that long I wasn't sure how they would turn out so I send the film off for development anyway.  Here are a selection of the random shots I took (without much thought) and surprised that the film hadn't degraded in any way :)

Finally got my roll of Ektar back from development. I recently purchased a Nikon F100 along with a Tokina 20-35mm to try out some landscape film shots plus a few portraits. At the moment I'm using an old Epson 4490 scanner to scan the negatives. It does a pretty decent job even though it's a good few years old. I would like to get the new Epson V700 scanner as the review says it's right up there with a designated film scanner for image quality scans.  However, at the moment I don't have £400 spare to invest into one.

I'm finding that my home scans are coming out a bit better than a lab scanned image. I think the reason is down to the lab using 'auto' on all it's scans which can lead to some blowing out of the whites and loosing detail in clouds etc.

Here are a few of the results using the combination of the Nikon F100 along with the Tokina 20-35mm. The portraits were with the F100 and 85mm 1.8 AF-D lens.

25th June 2011

I finally got to meet up with Jon Baxter and Daz Crawley today. We arranged to meet up at Fairy Glen near Betws y Coed. So much for the sunny day with cloud the BBC weatherman promised. It rained from the moment we got there until I left them both happy taking photo's at 5pm. Jon later informed me not more than two hours later the sun broke and they had some fantastic evening light ahead of them, go figure :)

On the plus side I still managed to get a few photo's and it's definitely an area I'll revisit on a better day.  At the glen I didn't pack my telephoto lens so unfortunately, I couldn't really get close enough to the fairy glen itself so it was down to some wider angle shots.  Also with so much rain over the last couple of weeks, there was probably to strong a current for my liking. Anyway, here are a few from our outing today (as per normal my better efforts).
